iGuzzini España at Solar Decathlon

Madrid, Spain

Solar Decathlon (SD) is a competition organised by the US Department of Energy. It challenges universities from all over the world to design and build houses that are energy self-sufficient and powered by solar energy only based on a technology that allows maximum energy efficiency.

The final step of the competition consists in building the so-called “Villa Solar”: each competing university’s house will have to successfully undergo 10 different tests to prove it is entirely energy self-sufficient and be appointed the winning project.

iGuzzini’s Spanish subsidiary has been working as a technological partner with the Seville University on the SOLAR KIT project and with the Catalonia Polytechnic University on LOW 3:

The Madrid competition is the first Solar Decathlon to be held in Europe. It is in fact the first time that the event has taken place outside the United States.

Solar Decathlon Europe is scheduled to take place every even year in Europe and every odd year in America.
